San Blas-Canillejas is an eastern Madrid district with a well-defined working-class identity in its more consolidated neighbourhoods. San Blas concentrates a fabric of blocks from the 1960s to 1980s, neighbourhood markets and a traditional community atmosphere. Canillejas and Las Rosas have a more mixed character, with more recent residential areas and direct access to the main infrastructure of the city's eastern end: the Estadio Metropolitano (Atlético de Madrid), IFEMA and access to Barajas airport via the A-2.
Day-to-day life covers the basics: supermarkets, schools and health centres are accessible. Green spaces include the parque de San Blas and some neighbourhood gardens. The food offering is typical of a working-class district: bars and restaurants serving straightforward cuisine. Nightlife is scarce: there is no significant nightlife axis, although events at the Estadio Metropolitano or IFEMA periodically generate a lot of activity in the area.
Transport is moderate. Metro line 7 — Simancas, San Blas, Canillejas, García Noblejas, Torre Arias, Estadio Metropolitano — connects the district to the centre and to the interchange towards the airport (line 7b). Buses complement the areas between stations. Walkability is adequate in the neighbourhood cores.
San Blas-Canillejas suits budget-conscious profiles who value proximity to eastern infrastructure — airport, IFEMA, Metropolitano — or who work in the area. Safety is moderate and varies by neighbourhood. It is not a district to recommend for those who prioritise cultural life, nightlife or large green spaces.
