Fuencarral-El Pardo is Madrid's most extensive district and the one with the highest green space score (10/10). The Monte de El Pardo — one of the largest peri-urban woodlands in Europe — occupies much of the district's western territory and offers hiking routes and natural spaces accessible practically from the front door. The developments of Mirasierra, Montecarmelo and Las Tablas follow a low-rise city model: semi-detached houses, private complexes, well-maintained parks and low traffic density.
Day-to-day life covers basic needs: shopping centres such as La Vaguada in Barrio del Pilar, supermarkets, schools and healthcare services are well distributed. The food and leisure offer is modest: nightlife scores very low (3/10) and there is no dining axis comparable to those of central districts. Parks and sports facilities are numerous and well maintained, which largely compensates for the limited nightlife.
Public transport is the district's main weakness (4.2/10). Metro lines — Barrio del Pilar and Herrera Oria on line 9, Mirasierra on the Metro Ligero ML1, Las Tablas on the ML1 — do not cover the district adequately. Many residential areas are only accessible by bus, with limited frequencies. A car is practically essential for those living in Montecarmelo or the western developments.
Fuencarral-El Pardo suits families with children who value natural surroundings and space, and retirees who prefer the quiet of a semi-rural fabric to the density of the compact city. The price of 18.8 €/m² is clearly below central districts. The necessary condition for living here comfortably is accepting dependence on private transport. It is not a district for those who need to travel frequently by public transport or who value an intense urban life.
